    Notes:

Notes for PEARL BLANCH HORNE: Pearl had four children by her first husband Andrew. She was pregnant with the forth child, Sterling J., at the time of her husband Andrew's death. Andrew Dunn died on October 12, 1912, and Sterling was born on January 3, 1813. He died on May 23,1913. His grave marker read as follows: "Sterling J. Son Of Andrew and Pearl Dunn Born January 3, 1913 Died May 23, 1913 Asleep In Jesus".

According to the 1930 census taken on April 4, 1930, James T. Dunn and Pearl Dunn lived in Kinston, North Carolina. They had eleven of their children living with them at that time. Andrew, Jr. and Ruby were not living with them. James T. Dunn's occupation was listed as a manager for a lumber company.

Susie Horne Laine had tuberculosis and died in Catawba Sanatorium on Valentine Day, February 14, 1934 at 8pm. See the scrapbook for telegram notifying M. A. R. Laine of her death.
Evelyn Ruth Laine saved two letters that were written by Adnie Johnson Horne to Susie Horne. One letter was written on July 13, 1906 and the other was written on August 2, 1906. Adnie Johnson Horne lived in Talpa, Virginia. According to a Virginia map circa 1900, this was in south Prince George County very close to the Dinwiddie and Sussex County lines. At the time she wrote the letters she was a widow. Her husband John L. Horne died the previous year, May 15, 1905. Also at this time Pearl, Susie's sister, was married to Andrew G. Dunn. Pearl was three to four months pregnant with her first child who would be born on January 26, 1907. Susie Horne went to live with Pearl probably because her mother was ailing (Adnie Johnson Horne died on March 1, 1907), her father died the year before, her brother John and sisters Lula and Mattie were at home and could take care of their mother, and Pearl needed help at home. At this writing, the location where Pearl and Andrew lived is unknown but was apparently far enough away from Talpa that frequent visits were difficult. Adnie Johnson Horne's letters spoke of friends Rob and Nellie Temple being ill with Typhoid fever, and spoke of trips to Salum for 'meatings', and a planned trip to Shilo for Lula and Mattie. There are currently two churches in what is now the Templeton District of Prince George County, one is Salem Methodist Church on Templeton Road, and about three and one half miles away, at 18310 Halifax Road, is the Shiloh Baptist Church. It is assumed that Adnie was referring to these Churches as the places for the meetings.
See the scrapbook for the letters and pictures of the churches.
    Letters:
It is interesting to note the various cursive style for individual letters, date notation, and lack of punctuation. Spelling apparently was based on phonics. The letters were dated July 13 19 6, and August 2 19 6. There was no comma after the day, and the year was written nineteen six, no zero before the six. Note words: awlways (always), fiew (few), receaved (received), yore (your), thare (there), weak (week), etc.
Two of Susie Horne's cousins were judges. Judge West in Petersburg, and Judge Temple in Prince George County.

(Medical):Pearl Dunn died of a heart attack. This was unexpected because she had been very active and had never had any indication of heart trouble.
