    WILLIE GOODRICH JR. Willie Benjamin Goodrich Jr. died on Jan. 24, 2005, after a long struggle with cancer. Willie was born on March 15, 1933, in Burrowsville. He was a graduate of the Disputanta High School, class of 1950. He served as a company clerk in the United States Army at Fort Gordon, Ga. Following his service in the Army, he attended Smith Deal Massey Business School in Richmond. He was employed as an accountant for Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. in Hopewell for 40 years until his retirement in 1995. Willie Jr. was a charter member of the Burrowsville Volunteer Fire Department, past treasurer and charter member of Burrowsville Ruritan Club, past treasurer and lifetime member of Martins Brandon Episcopal Church. During his years in the service, Willie Jr. met Charles Terry from Alabama. Willie Jr. and Terry remained close friends throughout his life. In his spare time, Willie Jr. enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races with his son and good friends, Leroy, Tom and Chuck of Tidewater. He also enjoyed his designation as the Burrowsville community grass cutter for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Benjamin Goodrich Sr. of Burrowsville. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Riddle Goodrich; a daughter, Kimberly J. Goodrich; a son, Willie Benjamin Goodrich III; and his mother, Virginia Price Goodrich, 95, all of Burrowsville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Martins Brandon Episcopal Church, 18706 James River Drive, Burrowsville, with the Rev. Macon B. Walton, rector, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Brandon Church Restoration Fund in his memory.     Notes:

    Owned a service station on Rt.10 in Burrowsville (still there). He was robbed and tied up and gagged with a baseball cap in his mouth and dropped in a drainage ditch that ran into a creek across the road. He survived and stayed in business a couple of years before his health deteriorated and then died several years late; his lungs were weakened from the pneumonia suffered from the exposure in the ditch.

    Camp Lee and France. 80th Div, 318th Infantry, Co. H and was a PFC. Spent 8 months at Camp Lee and 12 months in France. Inducted at Surry Court House. He was in battle in the Argonne Forest (7/28/1918). He was discharged from Camp Lee on Jun 4, 1919.

    Virginia Goodrich Virginia Goodrich, of Burrowsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Riverview on the James Nursing Home in Hopewell.
    She was born in Elberon in Surry County on Oct. 14, 1909. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Eudora Dorothy Pond and John Tobias Price of Surry County. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lizzie Price Cornwell of Tucson, Ariz., and brothers, John Lee Price and Robert Wilton Price of Brandon in Prince George County, and Eugene Franklin Price of Windsor, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Benjamin Goodrich Sr., and her only son, Willie Benjamin Goodrich Jr.
    She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Riddle Goodrich, and two grandchildren, Kimberly Jane Goodrich and Willie Benjamin Goodrich III, all of Burrowsville. She is survived by nieces and nephews, John Wilton Price and wife, Marian, of Prince George, Robert Courtney Price and wife, Lil,l of Prince George, Eugene Franklin Price Jr. and wife, Janet, of Windsor, N.C., and Elizabeth Price Peele of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.
    Virginia was a lifelong member of Martin's Brandon Episcopal Church in Burrowsville, where she shared a special friendship with Brian and Mary Hobden of Las Cruces, N.M. Willie and Virginia operated Goodrich Service Station in Burrowsville for most of their lives and enjoyed weekends at the old Brandon Hunt Club on the James River with friends Cameron, Gertrude and Jimmy Olgers, and Harrison and Myrtie Livesay. In later years, Virginia also shared a special friendship with David and Betty Whitley of Hopewell.
    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Macon Walton, rector of Martin's Brandon Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery, Burrowsville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Martin's Brandon Episcopal Church, 18705 James River Drive, Disputanta, VA 23842. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com .
