Edmund Lanier b. 1767 Brunnwick Co VA. d.NOV 15, 1840 in Nashville Tenn, Buried in City Cemetery. He was raised Quaker, but in Nov 1798 in Brunswick Co he was took the Oath of Fidelity; in May 1805 in Greensville Co. he was granted a license as a Methodist preacher to perform the rites of Matrimony. He was living in Amherst Co.VA, IN 1807, where he was one of many signers to a petition asking that a new county be formed, as Amherst was too large to conveniently travel to the court house. In 1810 he was living in the newly formed county Nelson. Between 1815 1nd 1820, he had attended the Southern andWestern Theological Seminary in Maryville, Tenn and by 1820 he had settled in Nashville, Tenn., where he lived until his death. He travelled extensively through the south preaching; in the early1823 he spent 2 months in La. and Miss. traveling more than 300 miles by land and 300 miles by water, and preached 31 sermons. In 1830. he was a visiting preacher in Talbot Co, Ga. He married first in Brunswick, Co. Va. August 29, 1793 Patsy Walton, daughter of George and Angelina Walton; he married second in Greenville Co, Oct 30 1800 to Amy Washington Goodrich, daughter of Benjamin Goodrich
