Notes for Washington Goodrich:
Washington Goodrich was the oldest son of Benjamin Goodrich. He had land and slaves from his father. During his life he made many real estate transacitons. In 1804, 4178 acres; 1806, 122 acres; 1806, 178 acres; 1817, 368 acres; 1817, 150 acres; 1820, 11 acres; 1820, 23 acres and 1823, 166 acres. THe 1810 census of Greensville shows Washington with three sons and one daughter. In 1820 he had 24 slaves. Washington left no will and there is no estate record, surprising given his extensive property. In 1825 he paid personal property tax on 12 slaves and 6 horses, but by 1829 he is gone from the tax books, and must have died about this time.

Benjamin Goodrich, like his father and grandfather before him, was a county official. He was Sheriff,
with his brother Briggs, and a County Justice. In 1791-1792 he was a member of the House of
Delegates. In 1767 he purchased 300 acres, in 1785 he had 9 whites and 8 blacks on his plantation. In
1789 his personal property tax in Greensville was on 14 slaves, 10 horses, 2 carriages. In 1789 18
slaves, 15 horses.
