    GEORGE H. WISE: From an early period in the development of the Lehi gh Valley, ancestors of George H. Wise, of Bangor, PA have been identifi ed with the development of that section, particularly active in the lumb er business. The first representative of the family in Northampton coun ty was John Weiss, who moved from Philadelphia, PA, at an early date, t he German ancestor, Weiss, now anglicised as Wise, there settling upon h is first coming. John Weiss owned a small farm between Portland and the D elaware Water Gap, the exact location being known as Slateford. In additi on to cultivating his farm, he engaged in boaring, and rafting lumber on t he Delaware River. He there lived a quiet, peaceful life, and had been gr eatly respected in his community. He married a Miss LeBar, of French pare ntage, and they were the parents of a large family, including sons: Charl es, Reuben, Jesse, David, Micajah, and George H., who is the grandfath er of George H. Wise.

I , John Wise considering the uncertainty of the mortal life and bei ng of sound mind and memory blessed by Almighty God for the same do make a nd publish this my last will and testament to manner and form followin g, that is to say, first I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Susann ah Wise, all my real estate and all my household goods. and furniture a nd all of my personal estate, goods and chattels of what kind soever, duri ng her natural life and after the death of my wife Susannah Wise my wi ll is that my executors sell all my real and personal estate, goods, and c hattels and divide among my children, Sally Ann Wise, wife of Adonijah Dra ke one hundred and twenty five dollars, Permelia Wise, wife of Nathon Hend rick One hundred and twenty dollars, Mahala Wise wife of John Ridgway o ne hundred and twenty dollars, Christian Wise wife of William Tranger eigh ty dollars, Janet Wise wife of Benjamin Strunk sixty dollars. The above s ums is what I have given to my daughters and my will and meaning is that t he several sums to be deducted out of their respective shares, and my wi ll is that all of my children , Reuben Wise, Charles Wise, Jesse Wise, Mac agy Wise, David Wise, George Wise and all my daughters above named to sha re and share alike. David Wise has had forty dollars which is to be deduc ted from his share and divided among the rest of my children and my son Ma cagy Wise is to have the use of his share during his life but if he shou ld die and having no heirs then his share to be collected by my executo rs and equally divided among the rest of my children. I give and bequea th to my grand daughter, Rosetta Wise, wife of William Hanghawant twenty f ive dollars, and to my grand son William Wise fifty dollars, my will is th at the land whereon my son David Wise lives in Wayne County to be so ld by my executors immediately after my death, and I also give and bequea th to my grand daughter Julia Steele twenty five dollars and I do hereby m ake and ordain my sons Reuben Wise and George Wise executors of this my la st will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witne ss whereoff I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty fifth day of F ebruary in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty tw o.
