George moved to Ohio about 1809 and settled near Toledo.

"During the Revolutonary War George was arrested. He had had a broken leg, and used it as an excuse to keep him out of the Yankee army because he thought the cause was hopless and wanted nothing to do with it. One day while George was working outdoors, a man came to him and said he was a British spy and he needed a place to spend the night. George took him to his house. Not long after, Yankee soldiers came and pronounced George a Tory and arrested him. He was later bailed out and sent home when it was proven that his leg was unfit for military duty.

About 1808 George set off to Ohio after selling most of his property to his son Isaac. He was about 85 years old at the time. It took him two weeks to reach his destination (near Toledo, Ohio).
