David Booth bought a 3/4 acre graveyard that is surrounded by land Mary Booth owns. Mary Booths 150 acres of land adjoins that of her son, Samuel Booth and it is very likely that David Booth purchased the graveyard in which his father, Rev. Beverly Booth, had been buried the preceding year. (from Francis Richardson to Jean Johnson, 2/12/1997). | BOOTH Beverly (I211)

In 1920 Alva is widowed and living alone
Names of siblings taken from bible records found in pension file. These w ere taken from a family bible in possession of Alva's brother George. Alva 's name appears as Alba as it does also in the 1850 census but Alva stat ed that his mother was a poor speller and it should have been Alva.
His description in military records was five foot seven, grey eyes, dark h air. His occupation was a farmer and a carpenter.
Served in the Civil War
Name: Alva Mitchell ,
Enlistment Date: 01 September 1864
Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Side Served: Union
State Served: New York
Unit Numbers: 1401 1401
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 01 September 1864 at the a ge of 18
Enlisted in Company L, 137th Infantry Regiment New York on 01 September 18 64.
Mustered out Company L, 137th Infantry Regiment New York on 09 June 18 65 in Bladensburg, MD
There is some discrepancy regarding Alva's birthdate. When he applied f or benefits from service in the Civil War he stated that he was born Ju ne 22, 1846. He applied in 1908. While reviewing his application it w as discovered that there was also a recorded year of 1848 as his birthdat e. This was disputed in his pension file and proof offered from bible rec ords settling on 1848.
Alva served in the Civil War from September 1, 1864 to June 9, 1865. Whi le driving a herd of 7000 cattle from Chattanooga to Atlanta, GA about O ct 1864 in line of duty he received a sunstroke and was sent to Atlanta wh ere he was taken with typhoid fever and was troubled with pains in his he ad, weakness and swelling of the legs and fseizures which he felt was caus ed by exposure in the army in the line of duty.
During his last years he lived with Mildred E. Barnes (daughter of John Ro yal Barnes). She cared for him as he was quite frail. Prior to being pla ced in her care he was in a care home that was taking advantage of him. T he Barnes family called the sheriff he had him removed. He then went to l ive with the Barnes.
Obituary from the Binghamton Press Feb 11, 1935.
MITCHELL The funeral of Alva Mitchell will be held at the J.F. Rice funer al home 150 Main St. Johnson City Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Buri al will be in the Chenango Valley Cemetery. The Rev. Stuart Walker will o fficiate.
From the Binghamton Press Feb 11 1935
