- In the Land Patent Office of the State House in Richmond, Virginia, I find one Anthony Binford received 320 acres of land in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia, from Governor Berkeley on Nov. 5, 1665. The same books show that John Ladd received 7,524 acres in Lower Norfolk County Sept 24, 1667. Thus early in history do we find the Binfords and Ladds living side by side and becoming warm friends. The marriages between the two families are so numerous that it is almost as one blood. second time, it being published the first time at Merchant's Hope meeting 2nd mo. 9th, 1700.
I find elsewhere that the marriage was consummated on 6th mo. 18th, 1700. This long period of waiting practiced among the early Quakers gave them sufficient time to consider their action, so they need not change their minds. Huldah Binford probably was a daughter of Anthony-at least John Ladd and Anthony Binford secured neighboring farms within
two years of the same time. William and Huldah Ladd were very devout Quakers. Wm. Fathergill says in his memoirs that he many times attended a meeting which was accustomed to be held in their house.
