    • James William Harrison was conveyed by marriage a life estate in 272 ½ acres south of Second Swamp and 89 acres north of Second Swamp. Ann Simmons had inherited 272 ½ acres from her late father, Joshua Simmons, in 1813 (PGCo Court Orders, 1811-1814, p. 369, in Weisiger, \\i0, p. 83). No location was stated in the distribution, but Joshua had purchased land on the south side of Second Swamp in 1787 (PGCo Deed Book, 1787-
      1792, p. 78, in Weisiger, \\i0, p. 90).

    • There is a Kirkham Graveyard in Prince George: "1.2 miles north of
      Disputanta, on route #618; thence .8 mile northwest on route #629;
      thence .1 mile south of route #629 Prince George, VA.
      This graveyard is located about fifty yards east of the residence, in the corner of an
      open field. The plot is about sisty feet square, fenced in and neatly kept. There is
      a lone cedar tree and one tombstone marking two graves."

      Martha Simmons and Peter Stainback are parents of the Martha Stainback to who there is a marker.

The bulk of the collection covers the years 1780 to 1820. Includes accounts, agreements, bonds, correspondence, estate papers, promissory notes, receipts, suit papers, and other items. The estate papers concern the estates of Nathaniel Duncan, William Harrison, Jr., Dr. Robert Irwin, Daniel Ivey, Thomas Johnson, James Mason, John Mason, William Mason, Henry Parsons, Lancelot Stone, and William Underhill. Also included are copies of the will and inventory of Thomas Epes of Prince George County, and an opinion on the settlement of his estate by Edmund Randolph, as well as a portion of the will of John Thweatt, also of Prince George County.       The Mason family were residents of Sussex County, Virginia. John Mason, Jr. (1741-1802) was the son of Major John Mason (ca. 1716-1785) and Elizabeth Chappell (1723-1799). He was a member of the Committee of Safety for Sussex County, and a captain in the county militia. He married (1) Elizabeth Gee around 1760, and (2) Jane Parham in September 1764. Their son John Raines Mason was born on 24 April 1770. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, justice of the peace, and sheriff of Sussex County. He married (1) Lucy Massenburg around 1790, and (2) Sarah Harrison Cargill. He died in December 1826.
