Notes |
- PAULINE ISABEL JOHNSON
Pauline was born on February 6, 1912, the first child of Sidney and Ruth Rogers Johnson. She was an impish and comical girl whose sweet nature enabled her to get away with her pranks. Two particular incidents which are still remembered involved some stones in the gas tank of the saw engine and little sisters terrified by being chased with a snake on the end of a hoe. She was an industrious girl nonetheless, and always did her chores willingly. As a teenager, she relieved her mother of all of her sewing work and made dresses for her little sisters and for the ladies of Dendron. She graduated from Dendron High School and continued to help around the house until her marriage on August 9, 1941, to Thomas Linwood Gofer, an industrious local farmer. They moved to his farm nearby and had two children, Malcom Thomas (1943) and Alice Ruth (1946). They were successful farmers until Linwood's death in 1977 Pauline underwent major surgery for a brain tumor in 1975 from which she recovered admirably. She still lives on her farm near Dendron and enjoys visits from her daughter, son and his wife, and grandson.

- Some difficult years followed with Sidney left alone with six children ranging in age from 3 to 16 years. Almost two years later he was married to Ruth ELla Rogers, but 18 years old. Her father was William Thomas Rogers and was related to Sidney's mother, who called him "Cousin Tommy." Sidney and Ruth had three children between 1912 and 1919, and by the time these were growing up the others had married and moved away.
