- Surry County High School alum Joshua Scott will deliver the commencement address to the 2008 graduating class of Surry County High School at 10:00 a.m. June 14 at Luther Porter Jackson Middle School
Scott, son of Chris and Cindy Scott, is a '96 graduate of Surry County High School and was named class salutatorian. After graduation, he attended the University of Virginia on a full academic scholarship.
As an undergraduate at the University of Virginia, Scott was very active in student organizations, ranging from Resident Staff to the University Guide Service. He also worked for the late Virginia State Senator Emily Couric of Charlottesville, starting as a legislative intern and working his way up to deputy campaign manager during Couric's 1999 re-election campaign. During his fourth year, Scott lived on the Lawn at U.Va. and graduated in 2000 with degrees in American Government and Religious Studies.
During his career, Scott has served in a variety of roles with the University of Virginia Center for Politics. He has also assisted author and professor Dr. Larry Sabato with numerous publications.
Scott is currently Associate Director of Development for Cancer Programs - University of Virginia.
