  	[Page 213] Clopton, William, ancestor of the Virginia family of that name, was descended from the Cloptons of Warwick and Suffolk, England. He was born in 1655, emigrated to Virginia at an early age, settled in York county and married, about 1680, Ann Booth, widow of Thomas Dennett, and daughter of Robert Booth, clerk of York county. William Clopton moved after 1683 to New Kent county, where the Clopton family was resident for many years alter. He died before 1733. In 1682 he was constable of Hampton Parish, York county, and on January 23, 1682-83 he made a deed of gift to his daughters Ann and Elizabeth.
