Goodrich, Mrs. Ruby Gwaltney, 89, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Richmond, Savage and Waverly, widow of Clyde Goodrich.
GOODRICH, Ruby Gwaltney, 89, went to be with Jesus on Monday, October 1, 2012. She was born in Savage, Virginia, on May 10, 1923 and spent most of her childhood in Waverly, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Gwaltney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Goodrich. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Rowe; her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Chris Goodrich, all of Mechanicsville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Kevin Nowell (Lori), Brett Nowell, Steve Goodrich (Carrie), Amy Childress (John); five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Laurel, Katelyn, Grayson, Acree and soon to be, little Lily. She also survived by her sister, Lucille Hite of Spring Grove, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was a longtime member of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also served as a volunteer at Richmond Memorial Hospital for 15 years. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 4 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful staff at Heritage Green for all the love and care they so graciously extended to Ruby for the past 12 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the East Hanover Rescue Squad, 8105 Walnut Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 22111.
