    Notes
    • FOURTH GENERATION
13 6 JOHN E. JOHNSON, son of (6 1), was the youngest of Martin Johnson's children and received cows and other items at his father's death. His date of birth was not recorded. That he was a successful planter is evidenced by his purchase of 314 acres from Walter Cotton around 1710 and an indenture with Francis Keye for 50 acres on Otterdam Swamp in 1729. In July 1742 John and his wife Hannah sold half of the Cotton land to Robert Tucker for one male slave and four pounds in Virginia money. John E. Johnson's will noted that he was a resident of Brunswick County (then adjacent to Surry County). It mentioned that he had a large quantity of cooper's, turner's, and carpenter's tools which he left to his sons. He left his manor plantation to his son Leveter and a plantation in Surry County to his son John. Mention of many cattle and household goods indicate that he was a man of more than modest means. . His will was probated on April 20, 1743

She was an affectionate and companionable wife, a devoted and self-sacrificing Mother. Long will she be remembered by a large circle of relations and acquaintance who feel their loss in irreparable. She often said she had no desire to live in this world where disease had worn out her natural body. That she was willing to die and be at rest. She died in an unshaken trust that as her mortal trials were passed God would receive her spirit. She exhorted her children to live as consistent christians.

Jordan Solomon (Soloman) and his brother William were born in North Carolina and migrated to Tennessee about 1805. Jordan married Sally Wisner (GRS #2) in 1809 in Williamson County Tn. William M. was born in 1810. In 1818 Jordan bought a grist mill and "cotton machine" on two lots # 99 & 100 in Fayetteville TN. for the cash sum of $700. In 1824 these two lots were sold to his brother William, by the sheriff.
Presumably William purchased this property for back taxes. In William Solomon's Will, dated January 1833, he leaves the profit from the sale of these two lots to his brother Jordan or his heirs. At the time the will is written Jordan is living on the property.
William died in 1845 leaving all other property to his wife and upon her death all money and property to his nine children. ( In 1833 men controlled their money even after death.) Harty died in 1851 and in the court records an unknown amount of money was left to William M. Solomon. Presumably then William M. was the heir of Jordan Solomon and is known to be the father of William F. Solomon.
