- I calculated his birth from the 1850 census, Nansemond Co. Where is listed with wife Zilpha (this is Zilpha Ann Vann, aka Zilphie, Silvey, and Ann.). He is 38 yr old. Also a daughter and his mother in law Susan. I got his death from his Civil War compiled service records (confederate) found at the Library of Va or on Fold 3, previously Footnote.com <http://Footnote.com>. It say, "Died of typhoid fever Hospital at Richmond June 18, 1862." Also included are letters from Zilpha re: money owed for his service. In the 1870 census for Norfolk she is listed as using her middle name Ann (I had been told she started going by Ann ) with her children including sons our W. E. and Augustus. I think Jr.'s dates get mixed up with his dads sometimes. I had not followed up on all the Sam'l Augustus' but maybe I should to nail things down. If you haven't seen the compiled service record check it out. It has other information. That's all I know about him at this point!

Oh wait, I do know more. He is buried in Hollywood section O no. 167 in the confederate dead section. It's a small square marker "158 to 167".
