    GOODRICH, Ruby Gwaltney, 89, went to be with Jesus on Monday, October 1, 2012. She was born in Savage, Virginia, on May 10, 1923 and spent most of her childhood in Waverly, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Gwaltney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Goodrich. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Rowe; her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Chris Goodrich, all of Mechanicsville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Kevin Nowell (Lori), Brett Nowell, Steve Goodrich (Carrie), Amy Childress (John); five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Laurel, Katelyn, Grayson, Acree and soon to be, little Lily. She also survived by her sister, Lucille Hite of Spring Grove, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was a longtime member of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also served as a volunteer at Richmond Memorial Hospital for 15 years.     Lillian Gwaltney Stewart, 84, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 at Waverly Healthcare Center in Waverly, VA. Born in Surry County, VA she was the daughter of the late Charlie Cox Gwaltney and Emma Durphy Gwaltney. She was the wife of John Shelton Stewart, Jr. Lillian attended Claremont High School; was past news correspondent in the Dendron area for the Sussex Surry Dispatch for many years; was past member and secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary of Dendron Volunteer Fire Department; was a life member, past secretary, and chaplain of the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary; and was a member and Assistant Treasurer of the Union Christian Church in Dendron, Virginia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who served her church and community her entire life.
    Besides her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a son, J. Shelton Stewart, III and his wife, Jean, of Elberon; granddaughter, Jennifer S. Gwaltney and her husband, Charles, of Surry; two great-grandsons, Joseph S. Gwaltney and Randall A. Gwaltney, both of Surry; a brother, William R. Gwaltney of Waverly; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Thurman Roy Gwaltney, Walter A. Gwaltney, Sr., and Charles Marks Gwaltney; and two sisters, Louise G. Logan and Audrey Mae Boothe.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, VA, with the Rev. Cecil Smith and the Rev. Daniel M. Wickert officiating. Interment will follow at Union Christian Church Cemetery in Dendron, VA. He was a former detective on the Petersburg Police Department, a past deputy on the Surry Sheriffs Department, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Cockade City Lodge # 16 and a member of Savedge Hunt Club. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette O'Kennon Gwaltney.
    He is survived by his son, Pete Gwaltney and wife Susan; grandchildren, Kimberly Tingen and husband, Stuart, Chelsea Gwaltney, who was also his devoted caregiver, and Caleb Gwaltney; great granddaughter, Maddison Brooke Tingen; goddaughter, Lynda Logan Jones and husband, Willie; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family including Mary-Lois Binford, a special person in his family's life.

    W.R. "Bill" Gwaltney, Sr., 75, of Waverly passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. He was a former detective on the Petersburg Police Department, a past deputy on the Surry Sheriffs Department, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Cockade City Lodge # 16 and a member of Savedge Hunt Club. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette O'Kennon Gwaltney.
    He is survived by his son, Pete Gwaltney and wife Susan; grandchildren, Kimberly Tingen and husband, Stuart, Chelsea Gwaltney, who was also his devoted caregiver, and Caleb Gwaltney; great granddaughter, Maddison Brooke Tingen; goddaughter, Lynda Logan Jones and husband, Willie; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family including Mary-Lois Binford, a special person in his family's life.
    The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Wakefield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ray Rowland and Rev. Jim Burton officiating. Burial will follow at the East Matoaca Cemetery.
