Spencer and Gene met at the pool at Dover AFB, De., when Gene was teaching Scuba Diving to a bunch of CCT'ers. They became dive buddies and Gene grabbed Spencer when he hit his head under water and was knocked unconscious while trying to save a tackle box for a guy that had lost it overboard on the dock at "Bowers Beach". Spencer was floating down the creek and headed away at a quick pace as the tide was running. Oh yeah, the tackle box was saved. We chased women at a restaurant called "The Nuts" in Dover. This place had the best escargots in the world and many a plate was made for us by the chef named "Gene". Needless to say many a drink was also consumed. We bought trailers side by side at Clayton, De and lived off base in them. I met Leslie when she came to visit Spencer and yes, he advised me not to marry her, but did I listen, of course not. The rest was history. But then again, I told him not to marry the girl that he married. We both should have listened to each other.
