My father was Cephus Edwin (Peter) Goodrich (1924-1999). son of Cephus Gurney Goodrich (1893-1955). My wife Tammy and I own and operate Plantation Peanut Company in Wakefield. We operate out of the same building in Wakefield previously owned by my father and his father. The back part of this building was my grandfather's sheet metal shop. It was in conjunction with his sheet metal shop that my grandfather invented the Goodrich Puanut Digger. In addition, he made the weather vane that was atop the Suny Lumher Company. Presently the weather vane is the property of our family and is on loan to the Dendron Historical Society.
Another interesting connection between my family and the Suny Lumber company was our ancestral family home. My grandfather dismantle one of the "company houses" in Dendron, moved it to Wakefield. and reconstructed it on Church Street. It was a white weatherboard two-story home located adjacent to Tidewater Academy. This is where he and his wife. Leda Whitmore Goodrich (1893-1974), raised a family of two boys and two girls. During the past several years, the Academy purchased the home and had it torn down in the spring of 2005.

My children loved their Aunt Ruby and her meatloaf She brought this recipe with her to Texas and my family loved it. She and husband Clifton Morris Ellis Jr. (1912-1998) traveled to Texas once a year with her Virginia recipes and always took my Texas recipes back to Virginia. Her recipes have been passed down to my children and grandchildren.

Charlene Goodrich Traylor, 93, of Wakefield passed away September 8, 2014. She was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church. Mrs. Traylor was preceded in death by her parents, Gurney and Leda Goodrich; her husband, Charles Hunter Traylor, Jr.; a sister, Ruby Ellis and her brothers, Elwood Goodrich and Peter Goodrich. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles H. Traylor, III and Thomas N. Traylor and his wife, Susan. All services for Mrs. Traylor will be private.
