    Child 10: Elizabeth NAPIER (ABT 1732, , Virginia - ?) [F]
Note 1: Most investigators seem inclined to identify the spouse of Booth NAPIER either as Sarah LaForce or as Sarah Garland. Sarah LaForce, the daughter of Rene LaForce (the planter-physician of Huguenot extraction for whom Rene NAPIER is likely to have been named), was married to William Hardain (Harding) in Goochland County, Virginia, 7 November 1748. And Her marriage to William Hardain (Harding) is clearly indicated by the Will (dated 16 December 1756 and proven 18 July 1757, in Goochland County, Virginia) of her mother, also called Sarah. Of this Will, William Hardain was the executor. By William Hardain (Harding), Sarah LaForce engendered Giles Harding (15 June 1749, Goochland County, Virginia - 1810, Davidson County, Tennessee) [M], William Harding (1750, Goochland County, Virginia - 1797, Surry County, North Carolina) [M], Rene Harding (15 February 1753, Goochland County, Virginia - BEF 1766, Virginia) [M], Thomas Harding (3 October 1755, Goochland County, Virginia - 1805, Tennessee) [M]. If Sarah Laforce had first been the wife of Booth NAPIER then, since menopause usually occurs by the age of 55, she must have been no more than 12 years of age on the occasion of her first marriage. This is possible in abstracto but historically unlikely. The Will of Rene LaForce, dated 16 August 1728 and proved in 1728 (recorded in Book 1, pp. 37-38, 1728-1734, Goochland County, Virginia), names his daughter, Sarah La Force; and the Will of Sarah LaForce Harding was proven 23 March 1797 in Goochland County, Virginia. Alternatively, if Sarah Garland may be identified with the Sarah Elizabeth Garland (born at Pamunkey River, St Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia) who was the daughter of Edward Garland, then her marriage to Thomas Wingfield must be explained away. Of Sarah Elizabeth Garland's children who can be definitely dated, the following may be noted: John Wingfield (20 July 1723, Hanover County [separated from New Kent County in 1720], Virginia - 3 February 1793, Wilkes County, Georgia) [M], Frances Wingfield (30 December 1736, Hanover County, Virginia - 20 November 1802, Wilkes County, Georgia) [F], and Susannah Wingfield (19 September 1741, Hanover County, Virginia - 1827, Fredrickstown, Washington County, Virginia) [F]. It is, therefore, reasonably supposed that Sarah Elizabeth Garland was married to Thomas Wingfield about 1720. Accordingly, in the present state of evidence, the surname - but certainly not the given name - of the wife of Booth NAPIER is indeterminate.
Note 2: The register of St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, British North America reports that, on 19 October 1765, Will Parsons NAPIER was born to Booth NAPIER (Jr.) and Christian TERRIL whose, surname, in secondary sources, is sometimes given as NORVEL. See "Register of St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia," William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 15, No. 2. (October 1906), pp. 113-123.
Note 3: The funeral sermon of Booth NAPIER (Jr.) was preached 23 April 1770 at St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, British North America. See "Register of St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia," William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 15, No. 4. (April 1907), pp. 249-255.
Note 3: Patrick NAPIER, in 1744, was deputy Sheriff in Albemarle County, Virginia. He was also a vestryman in St. Anne's Parish. The children of Patrick NAPIER and Martha CLAIBORNE were: Thomas NAPIER (ABT 1736, Virginia - 1804, Columbia County, Georgia), Patrick NAPIER, Richard NAPIER, Rene NAPIER, Joseph Fox NAPIER, Mary Perrin NAPIER, Elizabeth Claiborne NAPIER, and Anne Fox NAPIER. In the given names of Mary Perrin and Elizabeth Claiborne NAPIER, compelling reason is found by which to include the deputy Sheriff of Albemarle County in this family-group.
