    Gwaltney property.

    living in April, 1996. A gravestone for her, identical to her mother's is
    beside her mother's grave.

    Hilda Holt Scott, 99, of Waverly passed away peacefully Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home. A lifelong resident of Surry, she was the daughter of the late James H. Holt and Denna Elizabeth Barham Holt. She was a loving, faithful, hard working mother, homemaker and farmer's wife. Mrs. Scott loved to quilt and sew and was an avid gardener who excelled at canning vegetables. She was a member of Carsley United Methodist Church and the Rusty Needle Club. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ryland A. Scott and a daughter, Gay Scott. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Carl Scott of Disputanta, Richard Scott and wife, Alice of Waverly and Keith Scott and wife, Becky of Dinwiddie; daughter, Louise Parham of Claremont; sister, Doris Barnes of Hampton; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery.          "To me she was always, Aunt Bea, a very loving and caring..." SMITH, Beatrice Johnson, 81, a resident of Surry, was surrounded by her loving family as she passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Sentara Louise Obici after a short illness. Born October 28, 1930 in Dendron, she was a daughter of the late, Jabray Johnson and Hannah Peck Johnson; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Andrew Lake Smith; her brother, Jack W. Johnson and his wife, Alice. Mrs. Smith was a member of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Eastern Star and had served the community on the Pork, Peanut and Pine Festival Committee for many years. After a 30 year career as Note Teller at the Bank of Surry, she retired in 1993. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter and son, Selinda Ward Judkins and Cornell Ward and wife, Vikki; grandchildren, Sandra J. Gutierrez and husband, Mo, Glenn Ward, James C. Judkins III and Erika W. Hahn and husband, Terry; great-grandchildren, Miranda Star Judkins, Amber Sky Judkins, Olivia Grace Hahn and Carson James Gutierrez; siblings, Shirley J.     Obituary for Carl Holt Scott
    Carl Holt Scott, 76, of Waverly, passed away on November 5, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born on October 9, 1937 in Surry County, VA, to Ryland Ambrose Scott and Hilda Holt Scott. After his retirement from farming, he was proud to work as a logger with his son and grandson. He loved to garden and spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

    Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Irene Peffer Scott; devoted friend Jeanette Jones Cornett; and his sister, Gay Scott. He is survived by his children, Chris Scott (Cindy), Kevin Scott (Gladys), Kathy Torrence (David), and Lorraine Ford; his siblings, Louise Parham, Richard Scott, and Keith Scott; grandchildren Joshua Scott (Anne Iverson), Justin Scott (Tina), Caleb Torrence (Caitlin), Abram Torrence, and Hannah Ford; and great-grandchildren Amber Craze, Graham Scott, Timberly Scott, and Stihl Scott.

    The family will welcome family and friends from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9th at his home, 26309 Petersburg Road, Disputanta, VA. A private memorial will be held for the family.
