HITE, Lucille Gwaltney, 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Thomas "Jack" Hite Sr.; and her daughter, Barbara Hite Collins. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jeff Thomas "Jack" Hite Jr. and wife, Letha, and Larry Douglas Hite and wife, Penny; son-in-law, Earl Hunter Collins Jr.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, May 24, 2013 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home-Wakefield Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the funeral home, with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Goodrich, Mrs. Ruby Gwaltney, 89, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Richmond, Savage and Waverly, widow of Clyde Goodrich.
GOODRICH, Ruby Gwaltney, 89, went to be with Jesus on Monday, October 1, 2012. She was born in Savage, Virginia, on May 10, 1923 and spent most of her childhood in Waverly, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Gwaltney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Goodrich. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Richard Rowe; her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Chris Goodrich, all of Mechanicsville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Kevin Nowell (Lori), Brett Nowell, Steve Goodrich (Carrie), Amy Childress (John); five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Laurel, Katelyn, Grayson, Acree and soon to be, little Lily. She also survived by her sister, Lucille Hite of Spring Grove, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was a longtime member of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also served as a volunteer at Richmond Memorial Hospital for 15 years. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 4 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Lillian Gwaltney Stewart, 84, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 at Waverly Healthcare Center in Waverly, VA. Born in Surry County, VA she was the daughter of the late Charlie Cox Gwaltney and Emma Durphy Gwaltney. She was the wife of John Shelton Stewart, Jr. Lillian attended Claremont High School; was past news correspondent in the Dendron area for the Sussex Surry Dispatch for many years; was past member and secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary of Dendron Volunteer Fire Department; was a life member, past secretary, and chaplain of the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary; and was a member and Assistant Treasurer of the Union Christian Church in Dendron, Virginia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who served her church and community her entire life.
Besides her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a son, J. Shelton Stewart, III and his wife, Jean, of Elberon; granddaughter, Jennifer S. Gwaltney and her husband, Charles, of Surry; two great-grandsons, Joseph S. Gwaltney and Randall A. Gwaltney, both of Surry; a brother, William R. Gwaltney of Waverly; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Thurman Roy Gwaltney, Walter A. Gwaltney, Sr., and Charles Marks Gwaltney; and two sisters, Louise G. Logan and Audrey Mae Boothe.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, VA, with the Rev. Cecil Smith and the Rev. Daniel M. Wickert officiating. Interment will follow at Union Christian Church Cemetery in Dendron, VA. Barbara was the daughter of Lucille Gwaltney Hite of Spring Grove, and the late Jack Thomas Hite Sr. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Earl Hunter Collins Jr. where they resided in Smithfield, Va. She was the devoted mother of Steven Ray Eggleston of Surry, Va., Jeff Owen Eggleston of Black Creek, Va., Mary Elizabeth Spiers of Eden, N.C., Earl Hunter Collins III and Kimberly Meeks Collins of Spring Grove, Va. 'Mammaw' leaves behind five grandchildren: four boys and one girl: Brandon Michael Eggleston, Adam Eugene Spiers, Justin Alexander Bruzzese, Jeff Hunter Eggleston, and Charley Grace Collins. Barbara is survived by her two brothers, Jack Thomas Hite Jr. and Larry Douglas Hite, their wives Letha Rollings Hite and Penny Rollings Hite of Spring Grove, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Lee and Kathryn Adkins of Lynchburg, Va. She had eight nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews, and many dear and faithful family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Purviance Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 18, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Interment will be in the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly, Va. Please join the family in remembering our beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend on Tuesday evening 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
