Little, and was admitted to the bar in April, 187 9. He has withdrawn from the active practice of law, and is now residi ng on a farm in Rush township. He was a member of the Legislature in 1883 .

Belonged to the Republican Part y. In Rush Twp Register of Death from Susquehanna Co. Pa. Cause of Deat h: Brights Disease. Gave age as 51 yrs. Probate Record 30 April 1906 Su squehanna Co. PA most of his estate went to wife Lois Bleakley Barnes, $5 00 to Edward R. and Bruce Bleakley, at age 21. Uzal Kinney of Rush and wi fe Lois executor. Uzal Kinney was appointed guardian of children, Guy Sew ard, Edward Royal and Bruce Bleakley. Wife left household furnishings, la nd etc.
According to information provided by granddaughter Millie Barnes Mika wh en William died his wife put the children into the School for Fatherless b oys, Gerard College in Philly and the boys never saw her again.

He deserves great credit for his perseverence under difficulties in ob taining his education. He has an office in the brick block with D.T. Brew ster, and devotes himself principally to Orphans' Court practice.

It isto his perseverance, indomitable energy and close applic ation that Mr. Barnes owes his success in life, and he is now most credita bly filling the office of deputy register and recorder of Susquehanna coun ty, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Barnes was born in Warren County, NJ April 30, 1855 a son of Roy al W. and Malinda (Stevens) Barnes, natives of Sussex county, N J. In th at State they continued to maketheir home until 1867 when they moved to De laware Water Gap, Monroe Co., Penn., but after residing there for two year s, they came to Susquehanna county. For a year they made their home in Au burn Township andthen removed to Rush township, where the mother died Febr uary 15, 1888, at the age of sixty-two years. The father, who was born De cember 14, 1813, is still living, and now makes his home with hisdaught er in Rush Township. He has been quite a prominent man in his communiy h as been called upon to fill township offices, and was director ofthe po or asylum for a time. In politics he is a Republican, and in early life w as a member ofthe Episcopal Church, but now belongs to the Methodist Episc opal Church, ofwhich his wife was also a consistent member. In their fami ly were four children: Watson T. (deceased) who was a prominent attorn ey of Montrose, and represented Susquehanna county in the State Legislatu re for two terms; Martha, wife of Alden Devine, a farmer of Rush Townshi p; William N., our subject; and Susan, who died in New Jersey at the a ge of three years. The paternal grandparents of our subject, William a nd Catherine (Kirkhuff) Barnes, were lifelong residents of Sussex and Warr en counties, N J, and the former was a gunsmith by trade.
William N. Barnes was reared on the home farm, and continued to li ve with his parents most of thetime until thirty years of age. At the a ge of nineteen he commenced teaching school, and successfully followed th at profession for seventeen terms in Rush township. On leaving home he st udied law with the firm of Little, Blakesley & Allen, of Montrose, at inte rvals for five years, and was admitted to the Bar in August, 1885, since w hich time he has devoted a part of his attention to the practice of his pr ofession, though for the greater part ofthe time he has held some offici al position.
On September 15, 1897, at Binghamton, N Y. Mr. Barnes married Mrs. Lo uis M. (Bleakley) Tower, and to them has come on son, Guy Seward, born Apr il 27, 1899. Mrs. Barnes was born July 2, 1868, in Cohoes, NY, where h er parents, William Irving and Sarah (Gray) Bleakley (both yet living), sp ent thegreater part oftheir lives. The father, who is a machinist by trad e, was born May 25, 1838, in Moreau, Saratoga Co., N Y of English descen t; the mother was born November 26, 1844, in Gilboa, Schoharie Co ., N Y, , of Scotch-Irish ancestry. In 1892 Lois M. Blewakley married Jo hn E. Tower, of Amersterdam, N Y who died the same year in Norfolk, VA whe re he was engaged as bookkeeper.
Fraternally Mr. Barnes is a Master Mason, also a member of the Indepe ndant Order of Odd Fellows and of the Heptasophs; in religious faith he ho lds membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church. His political suppo rt is given to the men and mesures of the Republican party, and he takes q uite an active and influential part in public affairs. While a reside nt of Rush township he served as school director three years; township cl erk three terms; her been secretary of the Auburn and Rush Poor Asylum f or the past nineteen years; and in September, 1888, was appointed deputy r egister and recorder, which position he will continue to fill during the D emocratic administration. His official duties have always been most capab nly and conscientiously discharged, and his public and private life ali ke above reproach."Admitted to the bar August 1882. John R. Barnes, 87, of 61 Binghamt Street, died at 5:30 pm Friday in the Binghamton City Hospital. He is survived by his widow, Lillie, two sons, Albert Barnes of Binghamton and Milton Barnes of Sidney; two daughters, Mrs. Guy Barnes and Mrs. Russell Strunk both of Binghamton; brother W.E. Barnes of Spring Grove VA, 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to Hopler and Georgia Funeral Home, 483 Chenango Street.

Captain's obituary states that he was the great grandson of the late Colonal John Augustine and Virginia R. Thweatt whose country estate was "Spring Garden, of Prince George County who practiced law.
Capton's name was most likely Wellington Ervin Barnes or Ervin Wellingt on Barnes. In 1900 census Ervin and Mary Barnes had three children....Wel lington, Elnora, and Ethel. Mary also indicated that she had had seven ch ildren and only three were living. All evidence supports the notion that 'Capton' was not his birth name.

Albert E. Barnes, 85, of 175 Chapin St, died at 3:35 Wednesday in Binghamt on General Hospital. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Philip (Mari on) Bigler Mrs Frank R. SIDNEY Milton R. Barnes 65 of 35 Pearl Street, Sidney, died at the hospit al in Sidney on Thursday evening, Frebruary 1, 1968, following an extend ed illness.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at C H Landers Chape l, Sidney Rev. Donald W. Bartholomay, pastor ofthe Sidney Methodist Churc h, officiated. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, at a lat er date.
Mr. Barnes was born June 7, 1902, in Binghamton, son of John and Lill ie (Mitchell) Barnes. He married Mildred Karcher in Binghamton on Octob er 8, 1925.
Before his retirement, he was an expeditor at Electrical Components Div ision of Bendix in Sidney, having been employed there 26 years. He w as a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge NO. 277 of Sidney.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mildred C. Barnes of Sidney; three da ughters, Mrs. Edwin Wilson and Mrs. John Larry, both of Sidney, and Mrs. J ames Mills of Walton; three sons, Milton R., Edward R., and Richard F., a ll of Sidney; a sister, Mrs. Edna Strunk of Sunnyvale, CA and 17 grandchil dren.
