      Ludwig Moyers

      LUDWIG MEIRER, Mier, Moyers or Myer, was b. in Hesse Cassel, Germany,
      Abt. 1750. His name is spelled several different ways in the record s. He emigrated to America in 1775, and settled in Hamilton Twp., Monr oe Co., PA. His wife’s name was CATHERINE. In the Hamilton church recor ds there is the following: July 10, 1782 , baptized Johan Meirer, paren ts Ludwig Meirer and wife Catherine; sponsors Johan Topper and wife Susann a. The family of ‘Lodwick Mier’ was recorded in the census of 1790 as con taining one male above sixteen years, two males under sixteen, and three f emales. The following information is taken from a deed recorded at East on the 3d of April 1794. Ludwig Myer purchased a tract of land from Phil ip Bergstreiser on Feb. 18, 1786. Bergstreiser had obtained this land fr om Frederick Willen. On Apr. 22, 1802 Ludwig Moyers died, and was b ur in the cemetery at Hamilton church. At the time of his death he was l iving in Lower Smithfield Twp.

      JOHN MOYERS (No. 1) son of Ludwig and Catherine Moyers, was bp at Ha milton church, Monroe Co., PA July 10, 1782 witnessed: John Topper and wi fe Susanna. He m 1803 CATHERINE ________ and lived in Monroe Co. His wi fe was b. March 16, 1774 and d. June 21, 1856.

      JACOB MOYERS (No 11) son of John and Catherine Moyers, was b. Feb 2 1, 1804, in Bucks Co., PA. In 1820 his father and mother were living in S mithfield Twp. About 1827 Jacob Moyers m. (1) CATHERINE ARNDT, who w as b. May 2, 1805, and may have been some relative of Henry Arndt., who li ved in the same township. Their first child was born June 7, 1828. The b aptism took place in the Smithfield church on Sept 7th with Henry Smith a nd Susanna Meyers acting as sponsors there were probably five other childr en born before 1843. The father of Jacob Moyers died August 26, 1850, b ut the mother lived until June 21, 1856. On Aug 30 of the same year the e ldest son, Peter, was married. It is likely that the migration of the fam ily to Laceyville, Wyoming Co, PA took place in early 1857. Mrs. Moyers d id not long survive the change. She died July 25, 1859 and was buri ed in the Lacey Street Cemetery. The widowed husband soon consoled himse lf bu marrying a young lady thirty years his junior. Her name was JANE BI RD, a daughter of John Bird (1756-1839) who served in the Revolution. T he second marriage of Jacob Moyers resulted in at least six children. T he father died on Feb 9 1874 and is buried by the side of his first wi fe in the Lacey Street Cemetery. Mrs. Moyers survived un 1909. I rememb er seeing her once when a child.

      PETER MOYERS (111) son of Jacob and Catherine (Arndt) Moyers w as b. in Lower Smithfield Twp, Monroe Co PA He married SARAH MILLER (2 54 Frederick Miller) at Stroudsburg, PA Aug 30, 1856. They moved the sa me yea to Braintrim Twp, Laceyville, PA. where their first daughter was bo rn. Peter Moyers was called for service in the Civil War, but was reject ed for disability. He was almost totally deaf at an early age. He and h is wife spent the better portion of their lives in Tuscarora Twp, Bradfo rd Co, PA. on the Dr. Underhill farm. He was born June 7, 1828 and died A pril 12, 1900 and is buried in the Lacey St. Cemetery. Mrs. Moyers was t he daughter of Peter and Sarah (Shafer) Miller.and was born in Tyronne, S chuyler Co., She died in Tuscarora, PA September 14, 1914.
      When Peter Moyers and his father moved to Wyoming county in 1856 th ey settled on Lacey Street a name given to a two mile stretch of road fr om Laceyville west to the Susquehanna River on the lower side of Brownto wn Mountain and Indian Hill. The community was named after Isaac Lacey w ho came from Connecticut in 17 ?. At the western end was the Keeney Fer ry established for Richard Keeney who cme to the locality in 1788. This pr ovided the easiest means of communication between Laceyville and Wilmot Tw p. In Bradford County.
